Starting of the Apocalypse:Chaos in 2020

In 2019, I aimed to paint up 4 full arimies. I did this but found a flaw in this plan. I didn’t become good in any of them to make it fun for any one. I jus had a base line idea on how they each played. For the next year, I need to focus my attention a bit more.

In 2020 my goal is to build up an Apocalypse sized Chaos army. This is going to be a mix of different Chaos Space Marine armies, daemons, knights. I’m also going to throw some more narrative ones in as well (Looking at you Dark Machanicum). I want to see how big I can make it in one year. The whole idea is to make it into one massive narrative army.

My over all goal is to have an army that tells a story. What that story is? Well I’m still working on that one but for now that’s the plan. There is a basic setting though. They will be set on a world that is under Imperial control. The city will be on the edge of a desert so the basing for some will be set in the wastes, while others are set in the urban areas. One or two factions will be on the edge. I will also need to figure out how to add a agriculture area or something in that area for the Nurgle daemons to help tie in their waste corruption areas as well.

My first focus will be on the marines. For the Heretic Marines, I’m going to do different legions and renegade chapters. They will all be tied into a joint effort to destroy an Imperial world on the commands of Abbadon. But more on these armies in different posts.

Knights will be a slow build army. I’m going to add a model now and then as I finish each of these monster sized kits. The main focus will be on the other armies while this detachment will be more for a nice fun large model build between more grueling horde army builds.

Now for those odd ball ones. I’ll be holding off till the end in case these get official releases. I’m going to add a detachment of Dark Machnicum using the Ad Mech book and one of Traitor Guard using the Astro Militirum book. These are more for the fun of it.

The idea for each army will be a full 100 power level force per faction included. This way I can play a normal 40k game with each of them. There are some that will be themed around formations from the Vigilince campaign books. Others from stories I read from Black Library. Some will just be because I think it would be cool.

With all of this, I hope to have a large collection that gives me some different styles of play but with a core set up that I can use to really develop some experience with. So let’s see how it goes.

Forging the Narrative: Skullcrasha

Basics of concept

Clan: Deathskulls. Some Goff may start to join later.

Tankcracka was a Warboss of a small Waggghh! making its way across the dark side of the rift.

Battled a Bloodthirster. Won and took its ax as a prize. The ax is slowly influencing him.

His focus became more battle focused. His boys are still All about looting. Because of his desire to go to battle more, more boys are joining his Waaagggh! and it is growing. Some Goff clans have been starting to join as well.

His Rok has landed on Vigilus. His mobs are starting to move out and see what they can make war with.

–———————

The mobs surround him. The boyz are itching for a good scrump. That and some good looting. Looking at them, Skullcrusha laughs at how they fight, mucking about for this gibbon and that. There are more of them now.

Nothing will be as great as his new choppa he looted off the big red beasty months back. It has made him stronger. Bigger. Better.

Since then, more boyz have been showing. Clambering for a scrap and some good looting. Since beating the red beasty, he has been able to help them get just that.

In the back of his mind a voice whispers “Skullz. Blood”.

He hits the side of his head with the palm of his hand. Since beating the beasty so good and taking his rightful loot the voice was in the back of his head. His wyrdboy, Jibjabber, tells him that it is the voice of Gork telling him to gather the boyz and bring a good scrump to the beakies and the weak ‘umies.

Gork wants him to loot as many skullz for some reason. Who knows what Gork or Mork think. And really who cares. All Skullcrusha wants is to go out and fight.

“Skullz.Blood”

Skullcrusha sees a group of boyz running up to him. He knows a good scrump is in the near future. He smiles a large toothy smile.

The Boss Nob of the boyz starts to speak. “Warboss Tankcracka..”

One quick swipe with his new favorite headwoppa and the Nobs head rolls off down the camp. All the boyz go quite but the little guys start to laugh and kick the shocked frozen head around the camp. The blood spreads out and splashes on the near by boyz, staining the lucky blue of their armor.

Looking at the boyz who just ran up to him. “Whatz my name?”

One of the boys stutters out “Warb…b…boss Skullcrusha”

“Don’t you forget it.” Pointing at the one who answered. “You da smart one. You da boss of dem now. Now what iz it?”

“Da ‘umies are ‘ere. We saw one of dem big ‘umie Stompaz. Us ‘nd Cogcranka did. We crumped it good too. Lotz of loot and shiny gibbons in it too.”

Laughing, Skullcrusha smacks the new boss boy on the back. “It’z scrummin time then boyz!” Pointing up at the large purple tear in the sky, “Gork is smilen down on us. Let’z go get ‘um.”

Skullz”

Pushing his way to the front and heading the way the boyz said they saw the ‘umie stompa. “Where dem shiny stompa of theirs are, dem ‘umies are sure to be! ‘ERE WE GO BOYZ!”

Blood”

With the mobs of boyz behind him, Skullcrusha looks out at the wastelands between them and the weak ‘umies. From the top of his lungs he calls out “WAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!” and charges out towards the fight.

“WAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!” the boyz cry out behind him and follow. The fight is coming and the blood shed will weed out the weak. The strong will survive. Blood will flow. Gork will have his skulls.

Blood. Skullz.”

Setting goals for 2019

So I’m going to attempt to do this blog thing again. This time I’m going for one to track progress over the year on several goals that I have set. Some may change over the year and more will probably be added because… it’s me and I do that.

So here is where I am at with them so far

Hobby goals

Goal 1: Orks

So my first goal will be to paint 100 power level of Orks. I will be doing this via polls on my local FB groups page (what to add to the list and what not) and things I just want to add. This will probably end up being more then 100 PL but it’s a first goal.

This goal so far: I have painted up a Wartrikk, a Def Dread, 10 Gretchen and 20 out of 30 boys for one unit. I am planning to paint up another 20 Gretchen and 10 more Boys for those units. I will also be adding another unit of Boys. From there it’s still rather open at the moment where this will go. It depends on what is under a certain tree in a few days.

Goal 2: Fyreslayers

This is one I’ve been working on for a bit but I’d like to wrap it up over the next year. I want to paint up a 2000 point Fyreslayer list. I have 10 berserkers painted of the 60 I have planned. I also have one Forge father on Magmadon along with a few other hero’s and a 10 man unit of Hearthguard. I just need to finalize a list and know what to add from there.

Goal 3: Ironjawz

When I first started going to our local GW store, there was a Path to Glory campaign starting. I built a Ironjawz warband for it. I stopped there and moved on to a 40k army. I want to return to it and round it out to a 2000 point list built around heavy hitters and speed. Goregruntas, Mawcrushers and some endless spell gears. May also include a gorefist in the mix. Get up quick and hit like a brick.

Goal 4: Dark Angels.

Going back to my roots with this one. When I started in this hobby, my army was Dark Angels. This was back in 2002 when you needed the Space Marine Codex along with the Dark Angels supplemental Codex to build the army. The army has good memories for me.

I want to return to it and bring in the new guys. My plan here is a Primarus based army with a unit of Deathknights and a Interrogator Chaplin observing them to judge if they are to be trusted. This is early in the introduction of Primarus to the Chapters. I know we are well past that in the official story line but I think it would be an interesting way of mixing them and helps bring a story to the army.

Goal 5: Armies on Parade

I want to enter it this year. Not sure which army will be on the board but I want to take part in it.

Gaming goals

Goal 1: Mind reset

So my gaming history is that from a competitive game. It was geared around tournaments. So I mentally trained myself to look for the win. As many who have played me can hopefully say , I am not the most competitive person but my mind seems to default to this old play style during a game.

My goal for this one is to make it my mental go-to to be that of a narrative player and enjoy the story being played out on the table more than anything else.

Goal 2: Play it Painted (mix of gaming and hobby here)

This is a simple one. Only play painted models. Painted models play better (totally a scientific fact right?) and it just makes the game look better on the table. So I am going to do my part and only play fully painted armies. Both for fun games and for campaigns in the store. This is really a way to motivate myself to paint all the things.

Goal 3: Well… this blog

I want to try and keep up with this blog. I want to use it as a way to express my view on things. Show off models I’ve been working on, track my progress over the year and anything else that pops into my head.

There you go. All my goals for 2019. Now some of these may change. Mostly the hobby ones. I may choose to drop the slayers and focus fully on destruction armies. The Ironjawz may be shelved for a bit to more to focus on something else that the store is doing at the time. But I am setting these goals as something to aim for. So let’s see how it progresses over the year.
